A patient first mindset for progress in healthcare

Everett Cunningham, President & CEO, GE Healthcare USCAN

I joined GE a little over four months ago. Today, I’m excited to take a moment to reflect and share a part of my experience. I tell my colleagues that I chose GE for many reasons, with one of the largest being the people and leadership. I am surrounded by phenomenal leaders every day, not only within this company but among the partners, suppliers, communities and customers we interact with every day. There are amazing leaders in healthcare. It motivates me—I wake up excited about who I’ll be meeting with, what challenges we’ll tackle together and what I’ll learn along the way. It’s inspiring and what has kept me in the healthcare industry for more than 27 years.

They say with change comes opportunity and I see so much opportunity that we can tackle together as an industry. From my background in pharma and diagnostics, to my new remit with medtech, I’ve witnessed the power collaboration and innovation can have on reinventing the patient experience and improving system efficiency. Together, I’m excited for the progress we can make.

A recent example of this is our recent work with New York City Health + Hospitals, the largest public health care system in the nation serving more than a million New Yorkers annually. As you can read below, as part of its transformation strategy, the system will invest $224 million to upgrade its medical imaging technology, system-wide over the next 10 years which will help improve their patient experience and provide the highest quality of care, diagnosis and treatment for all New Yorkers.

Living in New York with my wife who is a practicing physician, this announcement means a lot to me, personally. As many of us know, providing premium care to a growing patient population continues to be challenging in today’s healthcare environment. Working together and towards a shared goal of ensuring the best quality and value for the people of New York, we can provide both clinicians and patients access to the latest imaging technology while reducing costs, increasing hospital efficiency, enhancing clinical quality, and improving patient experience. Working alongside leaders like Mitchell Katz, MD, President and CEO of NYC H+H is an honor; I am encouraged and excited about what we can accomplish together. Thank you NYC H+H for choosing us to be on this journey with you.

Let’s continue to connect, share ideas and learn from each other. The industry needs us.
